About Us

Poetry Aloud Website mission statement

This website has the same philosophy as the poetry reading group with which it is associated – to provide local poets with a sympathetic platform from which to read (or in this case narrowcast) their work.

Poetry Aloud

We provide any poet who comes to our meetings with a sympathetic platform from which to read their work.  We do not criticise or analyse but offer an encouraging ear.

There is, of course, a warm welcome for those who come along to listen.

If you cannot visit us at our regular meetings at Benson Blakes in Bury St Edmunds at 7:30pm on the last Tuesday of each month (except December) then you will find us here at poetryaloud.org.uk.

July poems

Unfortuantely there was a problem with the recording in July. I was away in the USA and left an alternative recorder for use. Something odd happened and we got very few recordings. The one that was ok and submitted has been used. There are two other usable recordings if the poems are submitted.

The poems that have been submitted but for which there are no recordings have been put up.

We are now on Twitter!

Poetry Aloud is now on Twitter at http://twitter.com/poetryaloud

You can follow us there. We will tweet when there is new content or notable information.

Adding comments

Someone recently asked me how to add comments. They said they had tried but couldn't see how to submit the comment.

Unfortunately we have to have various protections in place to stop the many bad people out there who are constantly trying to add things we really don't want on the site.

New User's Guide

The Poetry Aloud website has grown in complexity and some people have asked for a guide. Here it is, but if it seems incomplete note that this document will develop over time.

How to contact us/submit poems

There is a contact form under the 'Contact Us' item on the left menu. This presents a form that can be sent to one of two 'Categories'. The 'Poetry Aloud' option will send the e-mail to Rob Lock, the 'Website' option will send it to Colin Whyles, the webmaster.

If you wish to submit poems, it is easiest to e-mail them directly to Colin on web.poetryaloud@gmail.com. You can attach your poems to your e-mail that way, which you cannot using the contact form.
